Seems like its been a bit quiet here for a while.... I just came across this group, and if anyone's still reading these threads, I've got a question to throw out:
So, I'm planning on being in Istanbul for about 3 weeks in August and I'm going to try to do some interviews with some well known darbuka players. My initial thoughts were to try and do a one hour audio-recorded interview focusing on the musician's background, music in their family and childhood, and other biographical sort of information. Then, I was going to try and do a second video-recorded interview where I would try and discuss thing more related to darbuka technique, the musician's individual style, his perception of other styles etc..
I've spent a good bit of time in Istanbul before, I speak passable turkish, and I'll have a native-speaker friend along with me for the interviews if all goes as planned, but this will be my first time conducting interviews in the field.
Any advice on conducting field interviews with drummers in Istanbul?
If any of you have any experience and would like to pass some wisdom/advice my way, it would be most definitely welcome!
